Nearly one in five adult patients with SARS-CoV-2-infected SARI in Bangladesh died either during hospitalisation or within 30-day of post-discharge, with almost half of these deaths occurring after discharge. Study findings underscore the urgent need to strengthen discharge planning, such as developing and implementing standardised discharge guidelines, prioritising high-risk patients such as premature discharge for targeted post-discharge follow-up, and implementing structured post-discharge care interventions to reduce preventable mortality in resource-limited settings.
