This project presents a short philosophical reflection on the civic responsibilities required to sustain democratic accountability. It proposes a simple normative principle of democratic citizenship: the role of a citizen is to support a political candidate only on the day of voting, while maintaining continuous critical scrutiny of political authority before and after elections. The project argues that when citizens maintain permanent loyalty to elected leaders, democratic participation risks turning into political devotion rather than political accountability. In contrast, democracy requires citizens who actively question their own vote, critically examine those in power, and function as persistent overseers of authority. By reframing citizenship as a practice of ongoing questioning rather than partisan allegiance, the work highlights the ethical responsibility of citizens to prevent the concentration of unchecked power within democratic systems.
