Abstract This paper proposes a novel stability criterion for discrete‐time systems (DTS) with time‐varying delays (TVD) and saturation nonlinearities arising from finite‐wordlength effects. The criterion is derived using a delay‐variation‐rate‐dependent Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional (LKF) within a linear matrix inequality (LMI) framework, providing less conservative stability conditions compared to existing methods. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is demonstrated through comprehensive numerical examples and validated on FPGA hardware, where the observed behavior closely matches theoretical predictions, confirming the practical viability of the proposed criterion.
