Existing conflict prevention and early warning/response approaches rely largely on institutional mechanisms and observable indicators, engaging mainly once tension is articulated and measurable. This preprint proposes a distinct layer: a distributed model of pre‑conflict micro‑stabilization operating before a situation is formally recognized as a conflict. “Invisible Watchman” is not an institution, profession, or standardized protocol. It is a mode of action performed by autonomous actors who detect micro‑signals of latent tension (speech rhythm, tone, pauses, repetitions; where relevant—micro‑expressions) and reduce escalation risk through minimally sufficient, reversible micro‑practices of presence, without outcome preference. Unlike mediators (who structure resolution processes) or advocates/activists (who pursue preferred outcomes), the Watchman maintains the possibility of resolution while refusing to steer the outcome. Architecturally, the model cautiously borrows from swarm intelligence (without military or drone‑engineering metaphors): local rules instead of centralized planning, stigmergy (coordination via traces in the environment), threshold models for escalation/transfer/exit, and fault tolerance through compartmentalization. The system’s goal is explicitly bounded to deterrence of breakdown (deterrent vector) and preservation of human agency; it does not optimize a collective “win” and is constrained by safeguards against invalidation of experience and strict safety stop‑rules. The paper outlines the system architecture (three interlinked “rings”), the swarm module, inclusion conditions, and applicability limits in high‑trauma or repressive contexts. The preprint is offered as a testable conceptual framework, with empirical validation and training design as future work.
