In the context of the integration of energy and transportation, the integrated energy system (IES) is a promising alternative energy supply mode for express scenarios. To guarantee the feasibility and reliability of the IES, a scientific evaluation of system performance is required to assist the system design and operation optimization. Therefore, this paper proposes an innovative comprehensive evaluation method for the expressway integrated energy system (E-IES) considering its distinctive energy-use character. Firstly, a multi-attribute index system is constructed covering energy efficiency, economy, environmental protection, reliability, and industry impact, which considers the influence of renewable energy consumption, traffic flow, and travel plans of the expressway. Secondly, index weights are determined by a combination weighting approach of subjective and objective evaluation methods, namely AHP-EWM-CRITIC. Then, a multi-criteria evaluation method is developed based on the improved squeeze adversarial interpretative structure model embedded with the combination weighting. Finally, the paper takes an expressway located in Panzhihua of Sichuan Province, China as a case study, in which seven system configuration schemes are ranked for an E-IES for a typical service area and nearby auxiliary service. The results demonstrated the necessity and effectiveness of the proposed comprehensive evaluation method.
