This work discusses the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in compulsory education, emphasising the need to move beyond the simple use of AI tools towards a deeper conceptual understanding of AI systems. While many educational initiatives focus on using AI to support teaching and learning, less attention has been given to AI as a subject of learning within school curricula. Drawing on international frameworks such as AI4K12 and current discussions on AI literacy, the study analyses challenges related to curriculum integration and teacher preparation. The work highlights the importance of structured approaches that promote critical, informed, and responsible engagement with artificial intelligence in school education.
