‘Well-being’ has been studied since the early 21st century, mainly in terms of the significance of psychological well-being in conjunction with an individual's life choices, affective state and growth. It has been strongly constructed as a concept for which several scales have been developed to measure the same. Over time, this concept and the process of well-being in itself have evolved, owing to which, there is a need to re-examine it from a critical lens in order to encompass the realities today. This study introduces a set of cognitive constructs and proposes a new well-being framework that could be used to develop a composite scale. Through a comprehensive literature review and bibliometrics analysis, this study synthesizes existing literature, whereby we used a structured process to identify and integrate relevant concepts from recent studies. Broadly, the findings from the bibliometrics analysis suggest that ‘meaningfulness’, ‘psychological flexibility’ and ‘mindfulness’ are the three composite cognitive constructs that form the fulcrum of ‘psychological well-being’, and are extremely relevant even today, particularly in practice (i.e. work environment) for enhancing the overall psychological well-being of an individual. • Contributes to the development of measurement tools: The present research introduces a novel cognitive model that may serve as a theoretical underpinning for crafting a composite scale, which is intended to measure staff psychological well-being. • Identifies important predictors of well-being. The present study shows that some higher-order cognitive structures (i.e., Meaningfulness in life, Psychological Flexibility, and Mindfulness) are basic concepts that predict psychological well-being. • Proposes theoretical foundation for further studies: The study's model presents a theoretical foundation that can be used as a guide in future empirical work, and it is the call to action for researchers to test the proposed constructs and wellbeing model and to see if the model applies more broadly. • Emphasizes Practice: The proposed model is a way to increase cognitive skills in ways that lead to greater mental satisfaction and psychological health, providing a practical tool for managing employee well-being amidst challenging times.
