This study investigated a 1D antenna array with an element flat-topped radiation pattern. The array contains a system of coupled transmission lines, which feeds a linear array of elementary radiators. The array was studied theoretically in the frame of coupled line theory and the elementary theory of antenna arrays. This study demonstrated that the proposed new configuration of the coupled lines provides an improved shape of the array element radiation pattern in compare with the known array with coupled transmission lines. The array with coupled post-wall waveguides was studied experimentally and using electromagnetic simulation in the 7–9 GHz frequency range. Numerical and experimental results demonstrated good agreement. Application of the array as an antenna with limited scan sector and multi-channel feeder of a hybrid multi-beam antenna was discussed.
