ABSTRACT In October 2024, an anthracnose‐like symptom was observed on leaves of Magnolia liliiflora in Shandong Province, China. The disease symptoms initially appeared as small brown spots, which then expanded into irregular grey necrotic areas with dark‐brown margins. Based on the morphological characteristics and molecular identification using the internal transcribed spacer (ITS), actin ( ACT ), calmodulin ( CAL ), chitin synthase ( CHS ), and β‐tubulin ( TUB2 ) gene regions, as well as confirmation of pathogenesis following Koch's postulates, the causal agent was identified as Colletotrichum gloeosporioides . To our knowledge, this is the first report of C. gloeosporioides causing anthracnose on M. liliiflora in China.
