ABSTRACT Events are integral components of urban tourism and bring vitality to destinations. While the benefits have been confirmed, the complex relationality between events and destinations needs further exploration. This study proposes a media perspective to reveal how events are embedded into urban destinations. By viewing them as socialized media, three passages have been proposed and highlighted to uncover the relational value and transformative force of events on destinations, encompassing materiality, processuality, and institutionality. This research note inspires the understanding of the role of events in urban tourism.
