Background: Mumps is primarily characterized as an acute viral infection that causes nonsuppurative parotitis, which is inflammation of the parotid glands, and is caused by the paramyxovirus.This disease is highly contagious and occurs worldwide, with its peak incidence typically in the spring in temperate climates, while there is little variation in the tropics.According to data from the Global Health Observatory (GHO), India reported 764 cases of mumps during the 2021-2022 period, particularly among children.This indicates a significant burden and highlights the complexities surrounding the resurgence of mumps globally.Methods: The study was conducted in May-July 2024.Retrospective data on mumps cases were collected from medical records from June 2021 to July 2024.Data was analyzed using JAMOVI software.Appropriate statistical tests were applied for continuous and categorical variables.Results: The number of cases in 2024 was higher than in 2022 and 2023.There was a clustering of cases in more than one region.Conclusions: Investing in surveillance systems can provide timely data to guide public health interventions to contain re-emerging infectious diseases like mumps.Our study found significant unreported data due to the lack of proper surveillance systems and protocols.This has resulted in missed cases and a lack of awareness about resurgences, which hinders prevention efforts as authorities are not informed about the increasing number of cases.
