ABSTRACT:Dental photography has become an essential tool in modern dentistry, aiding in treatment planning, patient education, and communication among healthcare providers. However, the practice of obtaining and using patient photographs introduces ethical considerations, particularly around consent. This review explores the ethical dilemmas of dental photography, focusing on the implications of patient consent and the potential consequences of breaching professional codes of ethics. The benefits of social media and dental photography for practitioners and patients are considered, as well as the repercussions of sharing images without appropriate consent. Recommendations for ethical practice and a comparative look at consent guidelines in various countries are also discussed to provide a foundation for consistent and respectful use of patient imagery in dentistry.
