The extra-high-voltage cables on the roof of Shinkansen rolling stock are connected to each car. The connection parts are detachable. If the connection is insufficient, an arc will discharge inside the connection part which causes the extra-high-voltage cable a ground fault. In this study, we established the connection check method with X-rays for the extra-high-voltage cables to avoid a ground fault. This method is inspired by the baggage inspection at the airport security check, and is now practically introduced to our regular Shinkansen Rolling Stock inspection for the first time.
