This study aims to propose a method to achieve grounding Engineering Process (the process that an engineer solves a certain manufacturing problem) to the Digital Twin (D2) objects under the Digital Triplet (D3) framework, in which engineers create values through their knowledge utilizing the Digital Twin. Even though a process modelling language (PD3) that records Engineering Process are developed and connected with wrappers (Substance Shells) that model all the properties and functions of objects in the D2, some remaining gaps make the grounding of all kinds of Engineering Process descriptions to data the D2 to be restricted and implicit. Through a case analysis, we designed a middle layer between EP recorded by PD3 and Substance Shells, in which the Concepts, States and Operations (C-S-O) in the EP descriptions are modelled and grounded to the properties or functions in the Substance Shells. In addition, a prototype to support the creation and visualization of the C-S-O space is developed based on the existing D3 tools.
