In this study, in order to improve discharge stability in Wire Electrical Discharge Machining (WEDM) of CFRP, the effects of the physical properties of metal plates on machining characteristics were investigated during simultaneous machining with metal plates. Simultaneous machining with metal plates was conducted by attaching metal plates to both sides of the CFRP. Prior to joining, the contact surface between the metal plate and the CFRP was pretreated by removing the resin using a laser machining system. Relationship between the type of metals measure machining time, the number of wire breakage and retraction alarms, were investigated. Based on these results, correlations between the physical properties of the metal plates, and machining characteristics were analyzed. In simultaneous machining of CFRP and metal plates, it was clarified that selecting an appropriate type of metal can improve the machining speed and the morphology of the machined surface.
