Abstract Motor vehicle accidents are a common cause of acute musculoskeletal injuries frequently prescribing despite national recommendations supporting multimodal, nonopioid therapy quality improvement project implemented a standardized pain management protocol in an outpatient clinic to increase nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug–first prescribing from 5weeks. After three Plan-Do-Study-Act cycles, opioid prescribing decreased, NSAID-firs85%, and mean pain scores improved significantly (P = .041). Standardization improved pain assessment, and multimodal pain management in acute injury care.
