Glenohumeral dislocation is a common and painful emergency that requires prompt reduction. Procedural sedation is typically used and effective, but not without risks-especially in frail patients, in those at increased risk of aspiration, or in patients with anticipated difficult intubation and/or ventilation. Regional anesthesia, although rarely considered in this setting, represents a relevant alternative. In this article, the added value of two nerve blocks that can avoid the need for procedural sedation in glenohumeral dislocation is highlighted. Specific complications, advantages and limitations, contraindications, and the choice of local anesthetic are also discussed.
