The article substantiates the feasibility of introducing a competency-based approach as a leading methodological basis in the practice of training future specialists in information technology. The modern labor market requires IT specialists to increase their professional level and competitiveness, which is evidence of the need to transition from the traditional «knowledge» paradigm to an orientation towards the formation of a number of professional and digital competencies. The implementation of this approach involves not only the transfer of knowledge, but also the use of innovative educational technologies, as well as the creation of a digital educational environment in higher education institutions to improve the quality of training and the development of digital literacy of applicants.
