Formation of bacterial biofilms by soil pseudomonads is a complex, multifactor process, which may be affected by diverse environmental parameters. Elevated temperature was shown to have an inhibitory effect on biofilm formation, while the effect of calcium ions depended on their concentration in the medium. A correlation was revealed between high ethanol concentrations and decreased efficiency of pseudomonad biofilm formation. Low concentrations of ethanol and glycerol facilitated development of more complex biofilm structures. Sodium chloride was shown to act as a stimulator of adhesion and subsequent formation of biofilm structures. These results show that these factors should be taken into account during development of biotechnological approaches to control of the biofilm formation processes.
