Investigation Of Plant- Based Treatments in Models of Monosodium Iodoacetate-Induced Knee Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis of the knee is a disorder of the joint that results in changes to the histology and biochemistry of knee joint. Pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment methods are applied for knee osteoarthritis. Non-pharmacological methods include herbal applications. Application of monosodium iodoacetate (mia) is a frequently used method in studies of knee osteoarthritis. Studies of these models aimed to reduce pain and inflammation in the knee area, prevent apoptosis and slow the development of osteoarthritis. While applying this model, plant and plant-based applications are also analyzed. In our review, plant and plant-based treatments applied in monosodium iodoacetate-induced knee osteoarthritis models are discussed according to plants, administration way of plants, species, mia amount used, solvent, slaughtered days after mia induction and pathways. It is aimed to contribute to the preclinical discussions by compiling the studies.
