This report presents the findings of the UK Data Service staff consultation on computational skills, conducted November-December 2024 as part of the UKRI funded grant Building Computational Capacity among Global Data Service Staff (UKRI302: UKRI Digital Research Infrastructure Programme). The consultation achieved a strong response rate, with 64 staff (around 80% of the workforce) participating. The results show that staff across all areas of the Service recognise the critical importance of computational skills to the organisation’s future and are highly motivated to develop their capability. While there is already a strong foundation of technical expertise, the survey highlights variation across roles and identifies clear opportunities for targeted, role-specific training. The findings will inform future investment in professional development, helping to ensure the Service remains at the forefront of data innovation and delivery.
