During the 2016–2017 academic year, the tireless work of a group of students and their faculty mentors made it possible for the Department of African, African American, and Diaspora Studies (AAAD) to launch the first volume of the Global Africana Review (GAR) on March 25, 2017. Throughout that year, in my roles as founding editor, faculty mentor, and AAAD chair, it was incredibly moving to hear from students how excited they were to have the opportunity to deepen their research skills and learn about scholarly publishing as they worked on their articles. As the executive editor of the tenth volume of the journal, I once again found it inspiring to witness the same excitement from students during the 2025–2026 academic year as we prepared for GAR’s launch on March 28, 2026. Further, in the last several months, AAAD’s faculty members’ strong commitment to mentoring their students has been evident, just as it was all those years ago when GAR emerged.
