This rapid review aims to examine the potential zoonotic risks associated with exotic pets. This systematic review explores various aspects of zoonotic diseases and their transmission through exotic pets. We followed the PRISMA methodology, applying four inclusion and exclusion criteria. All records included in this systematic review were retrieved from three databases: Google Scholar, Web of Science, and Scopus. A total of 70 records (research article or review article) published after 2010 were selected for analysis. Our findings indicate that exotic pets serve as significant vectors of zoonotic diseases. Several zoonotic bacteria, including Escherichia coli , Salmonella spp., Yersinia enterocolitica , Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., and Pseudomonas spp., have been strongly implicated in transmission. In addition, recent studies highlight the antimicrobial resistance exhibited by these zoonotic bacteria. Habitat fragmentation, landscape changes, environmental shifts, and the wildlife trade further contribute to the risk of zoonotic spillover. The One Health approach is crucial for enhancing capacity building and mitigating the spread of zoonotic diseases and antimicrobial resistance at the human−animal interface.
