Modern aspects of wound dressing application in the surgical treatment of patients with impacted mandibular third molars

Removal of the lower third molar (LTM) is a common surgical procedure in dentistry caused by eruption abnormalities and their complications, including inflammatory diseases and infectious processes. The protocol for complex removal of the lower third molar is standardized, while wound closure remains a controversial issue. Modern wound dressings have various properties that affect healing. Along with traditional iodoform turunda and collagen dressings, alginate dressings that have proven themselves in other surgical specialties are promising, the use of which can increase the effectiveness of surgical treatment of patients who require removal of the third molar of the mandible.
