This article is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the introduction of the input-output balance toolkit. The authors did not aim to provide an encyclopedic overview of the development of the input-output balance method. Only the most significant moments in the development and application of this economic research toolkit, the most significant theoretical achievements and notable results, as well as a brief summary of the method, are mentioned. Particular attention is given to the Russian contribution to global research in this area, in particular, to the contribution made by scientists from the Academy of Sciences.
