Integrating AI into the School Curriculum: Experience of teacher training in a distance learning environment

This article explores how public-school teachers in Piauí, Brazil, were trained in artificial intelligence (AI) literacy through a distance learning program. The training aimed to equip teachers with the skills to both teach with AI and teach about AI as part of a broader initiative to offer weekly AI classes to high school students. The program, implemented in real time, required multiple strategies to adapt this technical and complex subject for teachers who often lacked technological backgrounds and worked in schools with limited access to computers and the internet. A total of 444 teachers completed the course, reaching more than 120,000 students across 540 schools.
