Accurate weight measurement is necessary for calculating replacement fluid volumes for therapeutic apheresis. The purpose of this quality improvement project was to validate concordance between patients' actual body weight and documented body weight. A total of 37 outpatients undergoing apheresis procedures were weighed before the procedure. The most recently recorded weight in the EHR was collected. The discrepancy, expressed as a percentage, ranged from -4.7% to 22.3%, with a mean value of 1.03% and a p value of 0.13. We conclude the weight discrepancy is not significant, and therefore, the EHR recorded weight is reliable for replacement volume calculation.
