In this study, we focused on gaze sharing during play between hearing-impaired children and their mothers, and longitudinally observed and compared two mother-child play pairs. In addition, the author and the mother reviewed the mother-child interactions while watching a videotape of the mother-child play, and considered how to support the mother. The results suggested that the amount of time the mother gazes at her child is related to the amount of time the child gazes at the mother, and that this also influences the mother-child gaze sharing. In addition, the review of the mother-child play suggested that it would be effective to support the mother by helping her to recognize the feelings behind the child’s words and actions, and to lead her to improve the mother’s words and actions.
