The Phongpa dialect is a variety of Khams Tibetan spoken in Pengba Hamlet, Badi Township, Weixi County, bDechen Prefecture, Yunnan Province, China. Recent studies have revealed that the Phongpa dialect maintains an archaic feature in its onset system: retention of the /r/-glide, and that it is affiliated with the Melung subgroup of the Sems-kyi-nyila dialect group. This article provides an English-Japanese-Phongpa wordlist, including 1400 entries with a summary of the sound system.
