Drawing an analogy between the creation of nuclear weapons in the 20th century and the accelerating pace of AI development in the 21st century, it is hypothesised that the powerful (universal, general) artificial intelligence (AGI) currently under development will have a significant impact on the architecture of international security. AGI will replace humans in the management of troops, weapons and military equipment, and assist in determining war strategy and developing and conducting military operations. It has the potential to become the new deterrent weapon of the 21st century, with limited control over the nuclear capabilities of states. The combined capabilities of AI synthesis with military technologies will give it the status of a superweapon. The subject of the study is artificial intelligence as a tool of future warfare. The aim of the work is to assess the potential impact of AI on the military security of the state and to determine its image as a superweapon. The study is based on the works of V. A. Lektorsky and other Russian scientists in the field of AI. An analysis of foreign scientific sources revealing the problems of creating AGI and its possible militarisation was conducted. The study used case analysis and meta-analysis as integration, interdisciplinary and systematic approaches, the method of unity of historical and logical, and the hypothetical-deductive method. Along with other convergent technologies, the development of AI appears to be a pressing task for ensuring the military security of the Russian Federation. Responding to the challenges of technological development in the defence sector requires non-standard approaches by the state in terms of improving critical technologies and acquiring cross-cutting technologies. Russia's technological and state sovereignty is impossible without the introduction of AI into military affairs. The hypothesis has been put forward that AI will be widely used in the military, including limited control over nuclear weapons. Without the humanisation of militarised AI, the risks of large-scale military conflict will increase exponentially. Scientific novelty: the author's revision of the concept of militarised strong artificial intelligence is proposed; the problem of war and peace in the era of technological singularity is actualised; the image of AI as a humane superweapon is presented. The results of the study are applicable in the field of arms control and the development of artificial intelligence systems for military purposes.
