Cellulose-based nanomaterials are promising cosmetic additives (1). However, their safety and environmental impact require systematic evaluation (2). An SSbD (Safe-and-Sustainable-by-Design) approach was applied to support responsible implementation. The cosmetic case study aims to assess the implementation of selected nanocellulose materials into four skincare formulations and compare their performance to reference products. Nanocellulose materials can enhance cosmetic formulations while reducing additive load. The SSbD framework supports their safe and sustainable implementation.
