Abstract A German Shepherd dog presented for gastric dilatation volvulus underwent surgical correction and gastropexy. Persistent postoperative ileus refractory to medical management prompted further investigation, and an intussusception was diagnosed 5 days after surgery. A double jejunojejunal intussusception with devitalised intestine was diagnosed at exploratory celiotomy requiring resection and anastomosis. Histopathology of the resected jejunal segment was consistent with inflammatory bowel disease. The dog made a satisfactory postoperative progress and was discharged home 16 days after the second surgery.
