The subject of the research is the process of creating a cultural-historical and linguistic commentary. The object is the novel "A Concise Chinese-English Dictionary for Lovers" by the Chinese-British writer Guo Xiaolu as a transcultural work and its cultural, historical, and linguistic aspects. It should be noted that this includes the influence of the text on the perceptions of readers from different cultures. The goal of the article is to identify the features of creating a cultural-historical and linguistic commentary for the work of a transcultural author. This study is a description of the creation of a project, within which a commentary was developed for the chosen work, facilitating understanding of the text at different levels. However, the created product can also be viewed separately from the original, which is also described in the article. The design methods include, first, an analysis of the target audience to develop an appropriate format for the commentary and its presentation; and second, a study and summarization of theoretical materials to select the right format. A total of 59,108 English words and 446 Chinese characters were analyzed, from which around 190 structural and semantic units initially became the basis of the project through a random sampling method. As a result, we analyzed and briefly described the theory of transcultural artistic literature and its characteristic features. The conducted research became the foundation for creating a real cultural-historical and linguistic commentary on the novel by the Chinese-British writer. The commentary itself is presented in the format of a website, for which we analyzed and commented on 125 elements. The scientific novelty of the article lies in presenting the experience of creating a commentary on a Chinese-British work, which can be used for reading alongside the novel, as well as separately as an independent study of the characteristics of cultural and linguistic adaptation. The article describes the characteristics of the chosen genre. The practical significance lies in summarizing the information obtained during the preparation of the project regarding the peculiarities of creating cultural-historical and linguistic commentary and the characteristic features of transcultural literature in Great Britain. The materials of the study can be used in teaching disciplines that develop skills in analyzing artistic works and/or language characteristics. The results can be applied in the study of linguistics and philology, literary studies, cultural studies, and intercultural communication.
