Background: Hair is a key determinant of an individual’s appearance, self-confidence, and psychological well-being. Understanding normal hair and scalp parameters is crucial for diagnosing hair disorders, monitoring treatment responses, and optimizing hair transplantation. Trichoscopy, a noninvasive diagnostic technique, has revolutionized trichological assessments. However, there is a lack of normative trichoscopic data specific to the Indian adult population. This study aims to establish reference values for key trichoscopic parameters, aiding in accurate diagnosis and treatment planning for hair disorders in the Indian population. Methods: This cross-sectional, descriptive study was conducted over 8 months at a Dermatology hospital in Bengaluru, India. A total of 501 healthy Indian adults aged 18–60 years were enrolled. Trichoscopic examination was performed at five standardized scalp sites using FotoFinder© dermoscope with ×20 magnification. Hair count, density, anagen, telogen, terminal, and vellus hair percentages, hair thickness, and follicular unit counts were analyzed. Results: Hair count and density were highest in the left parietal region and lowest in the frontal region. Males had significantly higher hair count, density, and thickness than females, whereas females exhibited a higher percentage of terminal hair. Significant regional and gender-based variations were identified. Conclusion: This study provides normative trichoscopic data for Indian adults, bridging a critical gap in dermatological research. The findings enhance the accuracy of hair disorder assessments and may shape future clinical practices and treatment strategies.
