Pregnancy represents a significant physiological and psychological transition in a woman’s life,characterized by complex hormonal fluctuations, physical adaptations, and emotional adjustments thatcollectively influence maternal mental health. Mood swings are among the most commonly reportedpsychological experiences during pregnancy (Field, 2016; Marc et al., 2011) and often manifest assudden shifts in emotional states such as irritability, anxiety, sadness, and heightened emotionalsensitivity. Although these fluctuations are frequently considered a natural response to hormonalchanges, persistent emotional instability may negatively affect maternal well-being and pregnancyoutcomes. In recent years, non-pharmacological interventions have gained considerable attention assafe and effective strategies for managing psychological distress during pregnancy. Among theseinterventions, yoga has emerged as a holistic mind–body practice capable of promoting emotionalbalance and psychological resilience. Prenatal yoga integrates gentle physical postures, breathingtechniques, relaxation practices (Field, 2011; Ross & Thomas, 2010) and mindfulness-based awareness,which together contribute to improved physiological regulation and emotional stability. The presentstudy systematically reviews existing literature on the role of yoga as a complementary therapeuticapproach for managing mood swings during pregnancy using the Preferred Reporting Items forSystematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) framework. Relevant studies were identifiedthrough major academic databases including PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar.Findings from the reviewed literature suggest that prenatal yoga interventions significantly reduceperceived stress, anxiety, and depressive symptoms among pregnant women while improvingemotional regulation and overall psychological well-being. The review highlights the therapeuticpotential of yoga as a safe, accessible, and holistic strategy for supporting maternal mental healthduring pregnancy and emphasizes the need for further large-scale randomized controlled trials tostrengthen the evidence base.
