The article examines the emergence of business analysis and its content. It reviews the history of the formation of business analysis as a scientific discipline. The study shows that this field has been gradually developed as a professional area. In interpreting the essence of business analysis, three main theoretical approaches are considered: positive, critical, and pragmatic. It is also noted that today a business analyst is a distinct and unique specialist who has the capacity to solve various problems faced by enterprises and companies.
