Occupational Dysphonia and Anxiety: Efficacy of Individualized Homoeopathic Therapy in a 38-year-old Male: A Clinical Case Report

A case of recurrent hoarseness of voice presented by a 38-year-old salesman, who needs to constantly use his voice for convincing his customers. This complaint was accompanied by aphonia on waking, with significant straining of voice to speak. The patient had a previous history of bilateral nodules successfully treated in 2019. The salesman’s profession of the patient demands continuous vocal strain, along with the business-related stress, anxiety, and health concerns increased his sufferings and complicated his sufferings. The vital parameters were within normal limits, and his general health remained satisfactory. The patient follows a vegetarian diet as he belongs to a strict Jain family, he has a good appetite and thirst with regular smooth bowel movements and is thermally sensitive to cold. Examination of the throat appeared normal, but stroboscopy done in 2019 revealed bilateral vocal cord nodules. The totality of symptoms compiled of mental symptoms of anxiety with despair, business-related anxiety and physical symptoms of causative factor from voice overexertion, hoarseness, and vocal cord pathology. The predominant miasmatic disposition identified is Psora. The constitutional remedy selected was Ruta Graveolens for its action on fibrous tissue, injury from strain, anxiety management, and hoarseness from overuse of voice. The adjunctive therapeutic remedy Selenium Metallicum was selected as it particularly affects the vocal nodules and is indicated in singers’ hoarseness. Prescription of Ruta 200 in two doses, one each on two consecutive days, and this was followed by Selenium Metallicum 30, three pills twice a day for 7 days. The first follow-up on September 11, 2025, 3 weeks posttreatment, hoarseness was completely relieved with no phonatory complaints. All symptoms remained completely relieved by September 25, 2025. To assess cure stability, the patient treatment was continued on a placebo for a couple of months. The efficacy of individualized Homoeopathic treatment integrating constitutional analysis, repertorization, and miasmatic understanding in dysphonia management illustrates successful management with achievement of sustained clinical improvement within 3 weeks of treatment.
