(Abstract) The Wangjinglou site is one of the largest early Shang city sites, located in Xinzheng City, Henan Province, covering approximately 2 km², dating to the late Erlitou culture to the Erligang culture period (the Xia-Shang transition). It is recognized by scholars as a core city site in the eastern region during the Xia-Shang period. However, its attribute determination has long lacked rigid, quantifiable, replicable, and exclusive criteria. Using the author’s Five-Lock Methodology, this paper systematically examines the Wangjinglou site from five dimensions: the dual-track coding metrological benchmark, the essence of invisible vs. visible divine power, the binary theocratic operating model, theocratic spatial gradient, and the spatial pattern of human-divine separation. The results show: (Lock 1) the segment lengths of the city wall and the width of the gate do not follow the 74.8 m theocratic short li module; the site is distributed along natural terraces of the Huangshui River; excavated bone artifacts confirm secular coding characteristics. (Lock 2) No unified invisible divine emblem is found; bronze ritual vessels symbolize secular hierarchy; pottery decoration is dominated by cord marks, with no theocratic symbol system. (Lock 3) The operating model is secular-independent; the core facilities—city wall, gate, and road system—all point to military defense and administrative management; social resources were allocated to city defense. (Lock 4) The site is located in the eastern part of the Central Plains secular core (Xinzheng), near the Xia-Shang cultural boundary, belonging to the radiation zone of the secular human realm defined in the Classic of Great Wilderness East, serving as a strategic node for the Shang Dynasty’s eastern expansion. (Lock 5) The spatial pattern shows human-divine separation, with clear functional zoning; secular spaces—walls, gates, roads, and house foundations—occupy the absolute majority, and no independent theocratic core is found in sacrificial remains. All five locks point to characteristics of a secular settlement. Accordingly, this paper confirms that the Wangjinglou site is an early Shang eastern military stronghold—a strategic pivot for managing the eastern region and controlling the remaining Xia adherents—forming, together with Dashigu, the Shang Dynasty’s eastern military defense system. ---
