ABSTRACT The problem of smooth contact of the faces inside an edge crack on the axis of symmetry of an elastic wedge under the action of two concentrated compressive forces applied to the lateral faces of the wedge is considered. Using the Wiener–Hopf method, the problem is reduced to an infinite system of algebraic equations with exponentially decreasing coefficients. The boundaries of the contact domain were determined. The stress distributions in the contact domain and on the crack extension, the normal displacements of the crack faces, and the stress intensity factor were obtained.
