The subject of this study is the social preconditions for the emergence of environmental threats arising from the activities of modern enterprises. A sociological interpretation of the causes and consequences of environmental threats in the context of modern enterprises is part of the ongoing problem of imbalances in the "nature-society" system. The author examines in detail aspects of the topic, such as microsocial processes in the internal and external environments of organizations that shape a shared understanding of the nature of environmental threats, their significance, and environmental values and meanings that directly influence the choice of social action vectors to mitigate them. Particular attention is paid to the development of social technologies as tools for mitigating the social preconditions for the emergence of environmental threats in the activities of large businesses in St. Petersburg. This circumstance is defined as the goal of the research. The development of social technologies is based on the results of sociological research conducted in 2025 in St. Petersburg. Specifically, a questionnaire survey of residents (N=779) and an expert survey of the heads of large St. Petersburg enterprises (N=157) were conducted. The study revealed the following problems in the activities of large businesses: the formation of imitation practices in the implementation of the principles of social and environmental responsibility, a focus on profit, achieving financial profitability and competitiveness at the expense of environmental priorities. Limitations in the implementation of environmental initiatives of the enterprise include a low level of environmental culture, primarily among managers, insufficient relevant knowledge among employees, and their concealment of information about the emergence of threats. The article proposes social technologies for the formation of a corporate policy to reduce environmental threats, which utilizes the transformative potential of transformational leadership. The latter is understood as the ability of managers to direct and motivate employees, managers, investors of the enterprise, representatives of the local community to implement environmental initiatives, develop environmental knowledge, values, and environmental behavioral models. The article also proposes the implementation of the following social technologies for reducing environmental threats: institutional support for value-normative coordinates included in the corporate policy of the enterprise; funded intersectoral interaction; ensuring a strategic choice in terms of solving environmental problems.
