The study investigates the acoustic properties of specimens made of anisotropic materials. Computer simulation of ultrasonic wave propagation is used to obtain the amplitudes of echoes from artificial defects. An assessment method for determining the influence of anisotropy on echo amplitudes during pulse-echo ultrasonic testing is proposed. An anisotropy coefficient for assessing the anisotropy of materials fabricated by additive manufacturing is proposed: it reflects the deviation of the velocities of transverse-polarized waves in two directions: normal and at an angle of 45° to the deposition direction. A correlation between the anisotropy coefficient and changes in the amplitudes of echoes from identical defects at different probe angles is demonstrated. A critical value of the anisotropy coefficient, i.e., the limit within which the material can be considered isotropic, is established.
