The primary objective of the measurements was to verify the operation of the water treatment testing facility. This involved identifying potential operational issues early, verifying equipment functionality, and fine-tuning operational, sampling, and maintenance protocols. These steps were essential to promptly initiate the long-term sorption tests, which are critical to the project’s success and whose duration should be maximized to ensure comprehensive results. The setup served as a precise simulation of a future scenario in which 25% of the water treatment plant’s sand filters would be replaced with GAU. In this configuration, raw water is first processed through the remaining 75% of the sand filters before being subjected to GAU filtration as a final treatment step. Three different types of GAU were tested: Hydraffin CC 8x30 was used in Column A, Filtrasorb TL 830 in Column B, and Aquasorb 5005 in Column C. Pilot testing commenced during the first year of the project on June 16, 2024, and continued throughout 2025 under the same operational framework.
