Employee absenteeism has a negative impact on productivity and efficiency in the workplace. This study investigates the function of performance appraisal systems in regulating employee absenteeism, utilizing primary data gathered via a structured questionnaire. The analysis centres on absenteeism trends, justifications for leave, and employee’s understanding and views of appraisal systems. The results show that absenteeism is moderate and that health problems, work stress, and shift timing are some of the things that affect it. It is also noted that employees possess a fundamental understanding of appraisal systems, with many asserting that appraisals affect attendance behaviour. The study finds that good performance appraisal systems can cut down on absenteeism by making employees more motivated and responsible.
