A programme of archaeological monitoring and recording was carried out by Oakford Archaeology in February 2025 during works at Buckfast Abbey, Buckfastleigh, Devon. The site is situated within the curtilage of the inner court of Buckfast Abbey. The work was therefore required by the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, as advised by Historic England. The work comprised the excavation of a single trench measuring 18m long, 0.4m wide, and excavated to a depth of up to 1.2m, extending westward from the centre of the road, along the south side of the Guesthouse, before turning northwest, entering the building through the western twin door in the south elevation. The work revealed a relatively simple deposit sequence consisting of natural subsoil overlain by modern deposits associated with the existing road and works undertaken in the 1990s. A very small assemblage of two sherds of pottery 12g was recovered from the road excavations, consisting of a single sherd of 18th-20th century whiteware and a fragment of 19th century clay pipe stem Nothing of significance was found
