Increased natural tooth retention has led to a partially dentate older population, presenting challenges in managing chronic dental diseases such as caries. Older adults, especially those in residential care, are more prone to oral health issues owing to factors such as more sugary diets, reduced dexterity and xerostomia. Dental caries, particularly root caries, remain prevalent. Effective prevention and operative management, including the use of silver diamine fluoride and minimal intervention dentistry, are crucial. Addressing these requires targeted interventions, improved care practices and access to dental services to enhance the oral health of older adults. CPD/Clinical Relevance: Effective caries management is essential in a growing ageing population.
