Today, Moroccan music greatly benefits from technological advancements across various levels. On one hand, a new climate of creative freedom has emerged. Young Moroccan artists increasingly utilize home studios and, notably, digital platforms to create and disseminate their music, allowing them to reach broader audiences without relying on traditional channels that often imposed control and censorship. On the other hand, new debates have arisen within the musical landscape, addressing issues such as the preservation of Moroccan musical heritage, the generational continuity of music, and more recently, the role of artificial intelligence in the creation, dissemination, and consumption of music. This article explores how new technologies can serve as effective tools, firstly, to modernize Moroccan music —particularly traditional and popular genres — to align with the musical tastes of young audiences. Secondly, it examines how these advancements can help ensure cultural and musical continuity across generations. Using a qualitative approach, including analyses of the form and content of examples of modernized popular songs, this article demonstrates how these innovations can enable Moroccan music to stay aligned with modern and even postmodern trends in global music. It also highlights how these artistic efforts could propel Moroccan music onto the international stage and, more importantly, how contemporary Moroccan artists can contribute to the preservation and perpetuation of Moroccan musical authenticity.
