Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of death worldwide. Oxidative stress serves as one of the major pathological mechanisms underlying CVDs and numerous studies have investigated the role of antioxidants in counteracting oxidative stress. Despite the steady increase in antioxidant-related research, a bibliometric analysis focusing on the use of antioxidants in the treatment of CVDs remains absent. This study performed a bibliometric analysis of 8655 publications related to antioxidants in CVDs from 2014 to 2024 using CiteSpace and VOSviewer. Annual publications rose from 464 to a peak of 1187 from 2014 to 2022, reflecting sustained research interest in the field. Key contributing institutions were globally distributed, with close cross-institutional collaboration evident. Oxidative stress, inflammation and atherosclerosis emerged as the most prominent research themes, while gut microbiota, polysaccharides and drug delivery represented key frontiers during 2022–2024. This 10-year bibliometric analysis clarifies the research landscape, hotspots and frontiers of antioxidants in CVDs. Antioxidant research remains active, but clinical translation faces challenges such as inconsistent trial results. These findings provide a reference for future mechanistic research and targeted therapy development for oxidative stress-related CVDs.
