The melt‐memory effect is studied using isotactic polybutene‐1 films prepared after a shear history. Films with a strong shear history have a shish‐kebab structure and a prolonged melt memory after reheating beyond the melting point. Furthermore, films after recooling with melt memory show a marked oriented structure, although an isotropic melt appears during reheating. Some of the extended‐chain crystals must have survived with their orientation during reheating, and the oriented folded‐chain crystals are grown from the surface of the extended‐chain crystals during the subsequent recooling. When the recooling rate is slow, the degree of orientation of the obtained film is higher than that before reheating.
