The population of those age 65 and over is estimated to climb 22 percent by 2035, then grow at more or less slower rates for the rest of the century. That means meeting health information needs of older adults will be critical now and in the near future. However, older adults often face barriers to accessing accurate health information, which can affect preventive care, chronic disease management, and overall wellness. This session introduces public health professionals to free, evidence-based resources — including MedlinePlus and other National Library of Medicine tools — that can be integrated into public health campaigns, health fairs, and patient education efforts. Participants will learn practical strategies for promoting health literacy, combating misinformation, and tailoring resources for older adult populations in both community and clinical settings.
