The CO2 redox flow battery: Bridging energy resilience, decarbonization, and sustainability While lithium-ion batteries dominate the market, sustainability and environmental issues remain a concern. Agora Energy Technologies is adopting a systemic design approach to energy storage by developing a new class of CO2-based flow batteries (CRB). Energy transition and industrial decarbonization remain key societal priorities that technological changes must reflect in order to achieve a future of net-zero CO2 emissions. Large-scale batteries for energy storage systems (BESS) are a linchpin between the intermittency of renewables and the dispatchability of clean energy. However, a fast and smooth energy transition could only be assured if clean energy technologies with BESS deliver sustainable and economic benefits simultaneously and at scale.
